What is the Information Operations Fundamentals Course (IOFC)?
The IOFC is a self-paced, distance-learning course that covers the fundamentals of Information Operations (IO). The course content takes about 25 hrs of on-line time. We have allocated 45 days for students to complete the course requirements, which include three tests. This schedule gives the student ample time to complete the course. There is a discussion area (this is not a chat format) where instructors provide relevant and current readings that relate to the course. Homework isn’t assigned; however, the instructors provide several discussion questions in the discussion area, that the students are expected to answer and discuss with fellow students. You can access the course anywhere that you have access to the Internet.
What is the purpose of the IOFC?
This course is designed to provide a basic understanding of the need for Information Operations (IO) in the Air Force and the concerns of senior leadership in the IO arena. The course is also a pre-requisite for the 39th Information Operations Squadron’s (IOS) Information Operations Integration Course (IOIC) at Hurlburt Field. One intent of the course is to make the students knowledgeable in AFDD 2-5. Another intent is to make Information Warfare Flight (IWF) members conversant about the IO disciplines. IWF members need to be able to talk the talk and to understand the basic concepts of what each IWF member is doing (not necessarily how they are doing it), as well as what the rest of the IO community is doing in IO.
Who can enroll in the IOFC?
The course is a pre-requisite course for students attending the IOIC at Hurlburt Field. Students must complete the course requirements prior to attending the IOIC. The IOFC is also offered to students who may not be attending the IOIC, but need a fundamental knowledge of Information operations.
When is the course offered?
The course is offered six times per year, 60 days prior to the start of the IOIC. The course is also offered six times per year for students who are not going to the IOIC but have a need for fundamental Information Operations knowledge. Please refer to the course schedule for dates.
